Apparently, HTC’s laboratories are working closely with Microsoft’s for the release of 7 and 12-inch tablets.
The vibrant tablet sector appears poised to unveil new products, with talk of unprecedented alliances. According to the always well-informed sources at Bloomberg, Microsoft and HTC are reportedly collaborating closely on the creation of new tablets that could reach the market within the next year. Specifically, the development of two models with different screen sizes is being discussed: it seems that a 7-inch tablet and a 12-inch tablet could be commercialized. The former would enter the competitive landscape alongside devices like the iPad Mini, Samsung tablets, and Kindle Fire, to name just the strongest and best-positioned market competitors. The 12-inch tablet, however, would represent a true innovation due to its decidedly large screen dimensions. Naturally, the operating system would be Microsoft Windows RT, allowing HTC to begin carving out a more independent niche, moving away from its almost exclusive reliance on Android.
A source close to the company, who provided these details to Bloomberg, also anticipates further information: it appears that one of the two new HTC/Microsoft tablets will feature cellular modules, thus enabling voice calls. It should be noted that neither HTC spokespeople nor Microsoft representatives have confirmed or commented on this rumor.
