Here’s Windows 7, prices and features

Windows 7 is released on the market today, a new operating system Microsoft heralded by the positive results of more than 8 million beta testers worldwide. Five versions are ready, here are the prices and main features.

Windows 7 is announced as a lighter, leaner, faster and more practical tool. Obviously compared to its predecessor, Vista, a resounding flop from Microsoft.
Simplicity is the guiding principle of the new Windows 7, focused on maximizing network potential; announced as more secure, Windows 7 will therefore be the ideal operating system for the whole family.
A launch campaign that seems to focus heavily on homes, also given the chosen advertising promotion method: Italian users who downloaded Windows 7 in Release Candidate and Beta had the opportunity to host a Microsoft-branded party at their homes, inviting relatives and friends.

The main features of Windows 7, officially released by Microsoft, concern the following aspects:

•Taskbar: the improved taskbar allows you to open files and explore your PC faster. You can add frequently used programs to the taskbar so you can launch them with a single click. You can also preview open applications.
•Home Group: is a new feature of Windows 7 that allows you to connect all PCs on your home network in just 4 clicks, allowing easy access to photos, music, and files from all computers, as well as sharing home printers.
•Device Stage: one of the most exciting aspects of PCs is how they allow you to use a wide variety of devices. In the past, you had to use different screens to manage peripherals. With Windows 7, a single screen has been introduced to connect, manage, and use printers, phones, and any other devices in a simple and intuitive way. Devices are also presented in their actual appearance.
•Photos and Videos: some Windows 7 features have been integrated into a free suite downloadable at www.windowslive.it. Thanks to the integration with Windows Live Photo Gallery and Windows Live Movie Maker, users can find more features to enhance and update their photos and videos and share them with friends.
•SNAP: allows you to snap two windows to opposite sides of the screen.
•Shake: you can “shake” the mouse pointer over the open application windows to close all files and automatically open the desktop. Simply shake the mouse pointer again to restore all previously open files.
•Simplified web browsing with Internet Explorer 8: Microsoft’s fastest, simplest, and most secure browser. Features that improve navigation include: InPrivate Browsing, Accelerators, and Web Slices.

•Fast startup and shutdown: Windows 7 users will benefit from reduced PC startup and shutdown times, as well as improved battery management.
•The mobile world made simpler: thanks to Windows Mobility Center, mobile device functionalities are gathered in a single, simple, and intuitive center.
•Protecting your PC: safeguarding information on your PC is even easier thanks to improved backup features and the Microsoft Security Essentials security solution – downloadable at this link – which protects against viruses, malware, and spyware.

•Windows Touch: you can interact with new touch screen PCs simply by using your fingers.
•PlayTo: you can play music, videos, and photos on other PCs or devices, including Xbox 360, connected to each other.
• New gaming and graphics experiences: Windows 7 introduced performance improvements with 64-bit support and DirectX11 graphics.
• Printer location detection: documents are printed from the right printer depending on where you are, at the office or at home. And with the ‘Offline Files’ feature, you can work offline and automatically sync documents and your PC as soon as you connect to the network.
• Personalization: to meet users’ PC customization needs, Microsoft, in collaboration with K-Group, has created a series of themes and wallpapers for Windows 7. Starting October 22nd, users can download customized themes for AC Milan, Cimberio Varese, Ducati, FAI, Ferrari, Fondazione, Jansport Musei Senesi Piquadro, SSC Napoli, Tucano, and WWF from this address www.pimpit.it.

Windows 7 is available in five versions:

• Windows 7 Home Premium (for consumers) at € 209.00
• Windows 7 Professional (for businesses) at € 329.00
