Google Play reviews can no longer be anonymous: you will have to sign with your first name, last name, and personal image. Here’s how it will work.
Google continues its project of creating a single, hyper-connected universe made up of different services, all unified by the same access and usage credentials.
It is precisely in this direction that Google has decided to proceed with Google Play reviews: from today, it will no longer be possible to express your opinion anonymously or via nickname.
The decision has been made to link Google Play with the Google+ social network, so that every review left for apps or any content on the store will have an irrefutable trace of who wrote it.
This means that the author’s photo, first name, and last name will appear, along with a link to the user’s Google+ profile.
The novelty is announced with a message that appears when you click on “Write a review”: at this point, a window opens where you can read “From now on, reviews you write will be publicly visible with your name and Google+ image. Your name on previous reviews will appear as ‘A Google user’.“
In addition to fostering greater honesty and transparency, by emphasizing that those who write from now on are aware of “putting their face to it,” Google’s move will likely lead to new Google+ sign-ups, although this is not the direct intention. Rather, it’s simply a way to curb online anonymity.
Certainly, a scenario of greater reflection on what one will write online can be configured – or at least hoped for – knowing that everyone will be able to know the name of the person who left a review on the Google Play Store.
