Google has just played a winning card in the game between companies that deal with mapping territories.
It is learned that the most recent update of Google Maps for Android has revealed a high-impact innovation.
From today, in fact, Google Maps can also be consulted offline.
This means that even in cases where there is no data or Wi-Fi connection, Google Maps can still be opened and used interactively.
This innovation will undoubtedly be useful in a wide variety of circumstances, allowing you to always have a clear solution at hand when you are having trouble finding a location.
It is important to keep in mind, however, that the offline mode will be fully functional by pre-downloading the data of interest.
Therefore, if you are about to undertake a trip, you will need to download the area you are going to.
It is obvious that you need to access the information on Google’s servers at some point before consulting offline.
This trick, however, solves many problems even if there is the possibility of accessing a network while traveling but you find yourself in areas with a very uneven or unstable signal.
Google therefore takes a very significant step in this sector, as many competitors have instead foreseen a system for using its cartography offline for some time now.
From giants to software houses developing apps, alternatives to Google Maps have certainly not been lacking in recent months.
To activate this new way of using Google’s map service, all you need to do is search for the area of interest and click on the new “Download” option.
Alternatively, you can also act differently, through the “Offline areas” section: by positioning yourself on the desired locations, you can then simply click the “+” icon.
At this point, the system will recognize the connectivity situation automatically: once Google Maps is opened on a mobile device, in case of absent or difficult connectivity, it will automatically switch to offline use.

As soon as there is a signal again, Google Maps will be available online.
The offline mode, in fact, for obvious reasons excludes the possibility of accessing real-time traffic data.
This is precisely the only “limitation” to the full service.
A detail that is certainly useful but negligible.
The update for iOS will not be long in coming: work is still underway in this regard, but soon Apple devices will also receive this innovation.
