The new Google product for image search, distinct from searching for images, is already operational. Here’s how it works and its potential uses, explained also with a presentation video.
Google continues its journey with algorithms, refining one dedicated entirely to images. Indeed, image search has been introduced, the new system for finding identical or similar photos and images to those of interest.
How does Google image search work?
It’s very simple: just go to the Google Images homepage and, instead of typing the relevant keyword, click the camera icon visible at the bottom of the search bar.
At this point, the available space will expand, offering two options:
– Paste image URL;
– Upload an image.
In the first case, if you have an image from a webpage, simply provide its link to get search results: both webpages containing the same photo and particularly similar images will be shown.
The second option is indicated if you want to check for a photo you have on your PC’s memory: just upload it normally (as you would an email attachment, so to speak) and automatically – without even pressing Enter – Google will proceed with the search. In this case too, the most relevant result and pages containing visually similar images will be displayed.
An additional option is to drag and drop the image directly into the search box with the mouse, for even faster results.
Google image search is useful both for verifying what happened to your photos on the web and, for example, for discovering what a photo you’re admiring depicts: a beautiful but unknown castle on a mountaintop will hold no more secrets with just a few clicks.
