Glocalnews seeks storytellers and bloggers

Applications are still open to join the social media team and participate in BlogLab during the four-day digital journalism festival in Varese this November.

Glocalnews is looking for digital communicators for the four-day digital journalism festival scheduled in Varese from November 17th to 20th. For digital storytelling, a fundamental communication method for Glocalnews, they need storytellers to train the Social media team #glocal16 and high school students to bring BlogLab to life.

«A festival like Glocalnews requires strong attention to the digital storytelling of everything that happens during the days, both online and offline –explains Marco Giovanelli, festival organizer-. Starting from the second edition, we decided to train a team of people each year solely dedicated to the festival’s storytelling on various social channels, which over the years has become the official Social Media Team of Glocalnews. By leveraging the possibilities offered by social media, the festival has enriched its tools and expanded its audience. The Social Media Team represents an opportunity for hands-on training; a way to experience one of Italy’s most important festivals dedicated to local and beyond digital journalism and communication from the inside, as well as a chance to broaden one’s contacts and build relationships».

For the younger ones, fourth and fifth-year high school students, Glocalnews offers the chance to try their hand as journalists and bloggers in Bloglab, the journalism workshop for students organized with the support of the Order of Journalists of Lombardy and the Lombardy Regional Council. For three days, students who want to take their first steps into the world of journalism will have to find stories to tell, photos to take, and people to interview armed with phones, tablets, pens, and notebooks. The participation formula involves creating teams of four young people; a successful formula that in past years has seen hundreds of young people engage, compete, and above all, have fun.

A new feature of Glocalnews 2016 will be the presence of ten students from Digital Camp, the permanent hub for training and dissemination of digital culture in the province of Varese, who will be involved in collaborating with journalists in the festival’s clusters.
