More price increases on smartphones, tablets, and various devices: this time it’s Samsung adjusting them to offset new fair compensation tariffs.
Further effects stemming from the introduction of increased fair compensation tariffs: Samsung has also decided to raise the prices of its devices.
In the wake of Apple’s decision to increase prices for iPhones, iPads, and other devices, questions arose as to whether other companies were also preparing to adjust their price lists.
News was eagerly awaited from Samsung’s headquarters, given its strong sales in Italy and its consequent need to comment on the new measures from the Italian government.
Well, Samsung has also decided to follow Apple’s lead and adjust its prices.
There is no official press release detailing this measure, at least for now; however, it was learned this morning that retailers reportedly received an internal communication from the company in recent hours instructing them to implement price adjustments.
The effects will be visible in the coming days and, unless denied, will also impact other products, not just those subject to the fair compensation and private copying regulations.
Furthermore, it is understood that vendors have been advised to abandon the practice of so-called “optical pricing” in favor of “full” and rounded prices: therefore, price tags with decimal points – such as 9.99 euros – will soon disappear, with prices likely to be rounded up to 10 euros.
Just yesterday, we reported on SIAE’s move to purchase 22 iPhones in France to give away, raising questions about what further actions SIAE might take.
Certainly, at this point, it is reasonable to assume that, like Apple and Samsung, other manufacturers will soon begin inflating their prices to avoid paying the levy directly, effectively passing it on to the end consumer.
