Facebook, Graph Search is active: how it works

Facebook officially launches “Graph Search”, the system that allows semantic-level searches within the social network.

Facebook announces a new feature within the network’s social mechanisms: the “Graph Search” project is officially launching.
This is a decidedly interesting innovation that we discussed a few months ago: from today, Graph Search allows searching for specific themes and topics within Facebook, leveraging semantics.
This means it will be possible to find people within the Facebook network even using more complex phrases and not just straightforward search terms.
In particular, Graph Search will be able to answer specific questions, such as “Which friends are fans of Bruce Springsteen?” or “Which friends support Roma?
Naturally, Graph Search will only search within Facebook, and more specifically within the knowledge and sharing streams that we and our friends have activated, taking into account that the search results will also depend on the visibility and privacy settings that have been chosen – or not chosen – in the past.
Therefore, between Graph Search and the recent implementation of hashtags on Facebook, it really seems that searches will become simpler to perform.

There are also downsides raised by some observers and users more sensitive to these new features: there is concern that a “Like” left even just for fun could lead a user’s name to appear in search results which, while relevant, could reveal too many details about subscribers’ preferences and habits.
The always valid advice in cases like these is only one: keep in mind what you wish to share publicly and what would be better not to broadcast.
Therefore, you will have to decide which privacy and visibility settings to apply to photos, status updates, and so on.
