Ads on eBay are multiplying, clearly aimed at disposing of unwanted Christmas gifts.
It’s Christmas gift time on eBay: not for purchasing, but rather for selling all those unwelcome gifts received during the recent holidays.
Double gifts also end up on eBay, perhaps from people to whom one cannot truthfully say that they already own that particular item. Thus, the quickest, most discreet, and painless solution seems to be eBay, a parallel universe where one can dispose of the items that crowded our homes at Christmas.
For Christmas 2010, as many as 4 million Italians declared they would sell unwanted gifts: this is revealed by research from Tns International, commissioned by eBay. Many of these sales will occur online, and according to statistics, the day with the peak of ads for disposing of gifts will be January 19th.
Certain categories of eBay ads will see a particular increase: Computers, Clothing and Accessories, Cars: spare parts and accessories, and Books.
However, even today, just 3 days after Christmas, the trend of re-gifting Christmas presents is evident: currently, 8400 ads related to this type of sale have already appeared, especially in the hi-tech, Clothing and accessories, and Home furnishings and DIY sections.
The phenomenon is not only consolidating year after year but is growing exponentially: if the gift wasn’t appreciated, one hopes to get rid of it by making a little profit… provided that the unfortunate gift-giver doesn’t notice the ad on eBay!
