Apple Increases App Store Prices: New Thresholds

A new development concerning App Store sales conditions will soon be a topic of discussion among users: in these hours, in fact, it has been noticed that the prices of applications and various downloadable content are changing.
Only a few days ago, an rumor circulated according to which developers of applications designed for iOS devices had received an official email signed by Tim Cook, which spoke of a rapid price adjustment.
While we were still trying to understand if the anticipation had merit and if the email was an original and truthful document, the figures for app purchases have actually changed.
At least as far as the European App Store platforms are concerned, prices have indeed been raised.
The difference is particularly evident for all those apps sold at the minimum price: it goes from the 89 cents valid until recently, to the current 99 cents.
It seems that Apple’s management has decided to impose a generalized increase in App Store prices in light of the changed economic conditions.
Indeed, there is talk of rising taxes of various kinds and unfavorable exchange rates that currently see the Euro weaker.
In the case of Italy, for example, it is mainly the impact of VAT that works against price containment: the 22% tax makes a significant difference compared to the 15% taxation in Luxembourg.

Cold percentages that, however, have a real and direct impact on the pockets of Apple terminal users.
It should be emphasized that, in general, the Cupertino company rarely introduces many changes in this regard: suffice it to say that this price increase is only the second case since 2008. The last time, for the Italian platform, it happened more than two years ago and – to be precise – at the end of October 2012.
The maneuver, therefore, does not appear to be a repeated and consolidated practice, at least until today.
