Apple app development center in Naples: the news is scaled back

The news about the upcoming opening of the Apple Store in Naples is being scaled back: there won’t be 600 jobs.

A few days ago, explosive news broke regarding the will of Apple’s top executives to invest in an interesting project in Italy.
It was learned through the words of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi that the Cupertino-based company would be willing to establish an incubator for new ideas and app development in Naples.
A development center that would have brought about 600 people to the new Neapolitan headquarters, hypothetically employed here in various roles.
In these hours, however, the news is emerging with a decidedly different scope.
The release of the official press release issued by Apple has dampened initial enthusiasm, as reading its content reveals that it does not mention new jobs at all.
Not only that: the hypothesis of using the Bagnoli area is decidedly fading, given that it specifies that the iOS App Development Center “will be located at a partner institution in Naples.”
Therefore, Apple will rely on something already existing and operational – rather than a completely new location – here in Italy.
For example, it could be one of the city’s universities, certainly not the former NATO base, according to what can be understood from the aforementioned press release.
The approximately 600 people mentioned in the wake of the news regarding Apple’s interest in Naples, therefore, would not be employees, developers, technicians, and engineers hired by Apple or by companies connected to the project. The press release suggests instead that they are simply students, and therefore future iOS developers to be trained in these unprecedented spaces for Apple but not for Naples.

Although no further or more specific explanation has been given – partially or completely denying what circulated in recent days – neither by Apple’s executives nor by the Prime Minister’s office, it seemed appropriate to inform FullPress readers about the factual content of the press release from the Cupertino company, available on Apple’s official online channels.
