When price comparison websites first appeared on the Italian web, many considered them destined to disappear soon. But that wasn’t the case; quite the opposite.
According to official data from the annual report that the Politecnico di Milano dedicates to business-to-consumer e-commerce, it is precisely these – online comparison sites – that are responsible for the growth of the Italian online services sector.
Specifically, according to the numbers, this sector is now worth four billion euros and its year-on-year growth has been 15%.
Comparing prices via the web is now also a habit in Italy, and some brands (Assicurazione.it, Trivago.it, edreams.it, to name but a few) have become the starting point for those who use the web to look for car insurance, a trip, or a hotel.
Just in these days, the launch of a new horizontal service comparison site, Facile.it (www.facile.it), has been announced. It doesn’t just compare one type of service, but allows users to find the best rates for car insurance, motorcycle insurance, deposit accounts, current accounts, mortgages, and even loans.
So, a single URL to manage our daily needs, both big and small.
This is precisely the advantage of comparison sites: they not only allow for economic savings (we’re talking about several hundred euros on insurance or even thousands on a mortgage), but also for time savings.
Can you imagine how long it would take, for example, to get a quote from 18 insurance companies through “traditional” channels? Once again, therefore, long live the web and, let us say, also the Italian propensity to understand what things are truly useful.
