Overheating Sony Bravia TVs: Models at Risk of Fire

Sony is being clear with its customers: its Sony Bravia LCD TVs have shown a manufacturing defect that manifests as severe overheating of the devices, due to an electrical component malfunctioning within the backlight system.
In some cases, this has even caused internal components to catch fire, ultimately leading to the melting of the TV casing.
The problem appears to be quite widespread, as Sony has sold over one and a half million Sony Bravia units in Japan, America, and Europe alone.
Therefore, even in Italy, there might be Sony Bravia LCD TVs at risk of overheating, sold from 2007 to the present. In such cases, it is advisable to contact the official customer service for an inspection of the device and, if necessary, a completely free repair. Before flooding repair centers, it will be necessary to await further instructions from Sony and first check if your Sony Bravia LCD TV is among those at risk.
The Sony Bravia models affected by the recalls are the following:

  • Sony Bravia KDL-40D3400
  • Sony Bravia KDL-40D3500
  • Sony Bravia KDL-40D3550
  • Sony Bravia KDL-40D3660
  • Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000
  • Sony Bravia KDL-40W3000
  • Sony Bravia KDL-40X3000
  • Sony Bravia KDL-40X3500.

It is important to note that, at this moment, the Sony recall program has only been officially announced and initiated in Japan, as the first substantiated reports, amounting to 11 cases, originated from there.
It should be mentioned that fortunately, the overheating issue has not led to serious incidents; there are no reports of injuries, burns, or dangers to people.
A difficult time for Sony: just yesterday we discussed the new hacker attack on Sony network sites, and now comes another unwelcome piece of news for the Japanese electronics giant.
