The smartphones Samsung of the moment are essentially two: the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the latest arrival, the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini.
Here on FullPress we’ve long followed the launch of previews and rumors preceding both releases and, especially regarding the Samsung S4 mini, we sensed the arrival of the “reduced” version of the top-of-the-range Galaxy S4 for some time.
It is therefore time to draw up a brief summary of the substantial differences between the two devices which, although conceptually similar, are intended for two different types of users.
It’s not just the hardware that differs and consequently the price: the software also reveals differences between the two models.
If the Android launcher native doesn’t show particular differences between one and the other, it’s instead a series of other details that catch the eye.
Let’s start with a detail present on Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini that is missing on the Galaxy S4: on the mini version we find the FM module for listening to the radio, with a connected app.
The radio is completely missing on S4.
In this case, the more “basic” model gains a point compared to the top-of-the-range.
The mini on the other hand, does not have the notification LED (in fact, in the settings menu this option is completely missing on the mini), while on Galaxy S4 the function is present.
On the mini the Air View and Air Gesture features also disappear, both useful for activating the phone using only the proximity sensor.
Also missing is the feature useful for pausing videos when you look away (the Smart Stay), present instead on the Galaxy S4.
All in all, for these particular aspects, the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini resembles the Galaxy S3 more than the smartphone it derives its name from.
It must be said that the S3 is a model that is still very appreciated and well-represented in users’ purchase preferences.
