The very popular instant messaging app Whatsapp would be in Google’s sights: will the acquisition happen soon?
Interesting news coming from across the ocean: it seems that Google is negotiating for the acquisition of Whatsapp.
Several US sources are currently reporting this rumor which, if confirmed in every detail, would represent certainly noteworthy news.
Not only because Whatsapp is a highly popular messaging service widely used all over the world.
In fact, astronomical figures would be at stake, which would truly enrich the developers of Whatsapp.
According to rumors reported by American news outlets, particularly the website Digital Trend, Google’s negotiations for the acquisition of Whatsapp have been ongoing for just over a month, with rather high figures involved: it is understood that Google has put approximately 1 billion dollars on the table.
An internal source – who for obvious reasons remained anonymous – is cited as having reported that the Whatsapp team is instead aiming higher.
While there is a big question mark regarding the financial details, as these data often remain confidential, there is absolutely no surprise from Google‘s perspective regarding its interest in such an application.
The Mountain View giant is indeed quite lacking in this regard, not having developed a similar messaging service.
Apple has iMessage, Facebook has Facebook Messenger, while Google has not yet offered anything similar to what Whatsapp does.
Therefore, the interest cannot be doubted, just as it seems easy to imagine that they want to focus on negotiating the price, given that only a few months ago there were rumors of ongoing negotiations for the acquisition by Facebook, which then presumably fell through.
A solid foundation from which to start negotiations, while awaiting to know if Google will secure this very popular application.
UPDATE April 9: WhatsApp management has denied the hypothesis of acquisition by Google, specifying that no negotiations are currently underway.
