The 105mm focal length and a very short focus distance of 1m also allow for full-frame portraits without the need for cropping. To ensure optimal results in Portrait mode, Nikon technicians paid particular attention to resolution even in the outer areas of the frame, drastically reducing sagittal coma flare and consequently achieving excellent reproduction of point light sources as small, rounded dots, even at the edges of the image. Peripheral light fall-off is efficiently controlled to maintain brightness throughout the frame when shooting at maximum aperture, even with focus set to infinity. Thanks to the unique optical design, the –image blur– intensity allows for an extraordinarily uniform bokeh effect and smooth out-of-focus rendering.
