Within a few weeks, group video calls will be available on Skype, even on mobile devices.
Very soon, Skype users will have access to a new – and highly anticipated – feature. From official Microsoft channels, it has been learned that the Skype development team is nearing the release of the option that will allow group video calls to be made even via devices such as smartphones and tablets. On the official Skype blog, it is possible to read that within a few weeks, the relevant update will be released, available for iOS, for Android, and for terminals running on Windows 10 Mobile. Therefore, no date has been officially announced, but the fact that it is already being discussed through official channels indicates that the project is truly in the imminent launch phase. So much so that the most curious subscribers eager to try the welcome novelty as soon as possible will have the opportunity for a preview of the service. Microsoft has indeed announced the initiative “10 Years”, a section of the Skype website entirely dedicated to the important milestone of 10 years of the popular VoIP service. Through this page, you can leave your email address to be among the first to test the new service. You just need to provide your email, the nickname used on Skype, your country of origin, and the type of device used to receive feedback soon.
In this very first phase, further details have not been revealed by the Skype staff; for example, it is questionable what the maximum number of participants allowed in a group video call via mobile might be. The hypothesis is that the aim is to keep the current number for the desktop version unchanged: at the moment, it is possible to initiate a video call with up to a maximum of 10 participants.
