Facebook Photo Magic: News on Messenger

A new feature is coming to Facebook, within Messenger: it’s called “Photo Magic”. Here’s what it is and how it works.

Facebook is significantly enriching its messaging app “Messenger”, providing new tools. This time, the application has been equipped with a new feature capable of interacting more quickly even with the main Facebook app itself. This is the novelty called “Photo Magic”, a brand new option that, in a way, performs an accurate scan of our device. Photo Magic analyzes the photo gallery on the main device, primarily looking for recent shots. At this point, once the images are selected, part of Facebook’s beloved facial recognition algorithm comes into play. Photo Magic, in this way, notifies with a specific notification the presence of the faces of our Facebook contacts, suggesting the possibility of sharing the photographs. By proceeding in this manner, the images can be posted, with the addition of tags corresponding to the names of friends actually present in the selected photos. While this function may appear extremely useful to many subscribers for intuitive and rapid sharing, to others it may seem like an infringement of privacy, both their own and/or others’. This second group of people may find it useful to know that the Photo Magic functionality can be completely disabled, so as to be sure that the images will not be “analyzed” and that no accidental publication with tags directed at friends present in the image will occur.
