A small change is coming to YouTube: Google, the platform’s owner, has announced that the “Collections” service will be discontinued starting May 20, 2015.
In Italian, the feature is called “Raccolte” and, as the name suggests, it allows users to organize multiple content items by “collecting” them according to criteria that users themselves can create and prefer.
This is not very different from using the “Favorites” or “Bookmarks” menu in web browsers, nor is it too dissimilar from what can be done with feed reader and RSS management software.
Without any particular explanation or justification, Google has therefore officially announced the closure of this tool. Consequently, all those who have used this feature to better catalog their favorite and followed channels will have to reorganize their personal platform.
The message released reads: “On 05/20/2015, we will be suspending Collections as we focus on other services to make your subscriptions even more enjoyable.”
In reality, this is not a major upheaval in how YouTube is used, considering that simply subscribing to channels already allows for good organization of content of interest.

You will not be able to create or rename any collections – for example, grouping channels of the same genre under a single “label” – but now everything will have to be managed differently.
What new services will be launched in the future? It’s impossible to know anything at the moment: we will just have to wait.
