Twitter openly against Instagram: a request is made to VIP profiles, here it is.
Twitter’s staff is stepping directly into the field to encourage more “global” use of the social network, and is doing so by addressing accounts managed by – or on behalf of – very famous VIPs and personalities.
As in a sort of “election campaign,” the goal is to gain more interaction, especially in a rapidly growing sector where Twitter seems unable to keep up.
This is the photographic front: it is quite evident and verifiable that many users use Instagram to share their images, sometimes – but only secondarily – also via Twitter.
Hence the explicit request to upload photos and videos directly to the microblogging platform, rather than through other social channels.
The staff’s explanation for encouraging the use of this type of direct functionality is simple: by uploading images via Twitter, they will be immediately visible on the timeline, without the need to click on the link that is generated when inserting a photo via Instagram.
It is indeed known that for many months now (specifically during 2012) Instagram has eliminated support for direct image viewing on Twitter: in the past, a card with a preview of the shot appeared on the timeline.
Today, all of this is no longer visible, and therefore Twitter – probably to regain traffic and user engagement – has decided to focus on the direct request to use this type of functionality.
According to what is understood from the Mashable website, VIP users would have received a message urging them to use Twitter directly for photo sharing, with an accompanying graphic example of the different visualization obtained by acting in this way.
Will it manage to catch up and make users lose the habit of using Instagram? Hard to say, but the growth rate of Instagram, a social network entirely dedicated to photos and short videos that has become popular in just a few months, especially among VIPs, is evident to everyone.
