Microsoft announces the integration of Skype within the Outlook.com email platform.
The new feature, activated for a selected group of users in some countries and in beta version for several months, has now been refined and released in its final version in Italy, thus enabling even faster interpersonal communication.
From today, users of the Outlook.com email service – which recently became all-encompassing, also including the old Hotmail service – will be able to make phone calls and video calls via Skype without necessarily having to log in through the official client, as has always been the case.
Only one step will be necessary for the first time: link your Skype account to your Outlook.com account and immediately after start the download of the dedicated plug-in.

At this point, all you need to do is click on the icon located at the top right of Outlook.com, choose the contact with whom to start the conversation, and opt to make a phone call or a video call.
In addition to launching this new feature, Microsoft has also introduced support for making HD video calls on Skype via Outlook.com; this capability is currently only available to those connecting via PC, not on mobile devices.
