The staff at YouTube – under Google – is reportedly close to launching a long-rumored feature: paid channels.
It’s no secret that negotiations with international broadcasters and network groups have been underway.
However, according to early reports from the Financial Times, citing sources very close to Google and YouTube, the process is now nearly complete.
The launch of paid channels on YouTube, therefore, appears to be just days away, with subscription costs already being discussed.
Rumors suggest that for $2 a month, users would have access to around fifty dedicated channels.
Thus, alongside the usual advertising revenue, a new income stream will emerge: that derived from subscription payments, similar to pay-TV services with pay-per-view programs, but at significantly lower prices.
Regarding the content offered through this new way of consuming media on YouTube, it would primarily include movies and TV series, but there could be many further developments once the project is officially launched and user reactions are analyzed.
It’s important to note, however, that no indiscretions are being leaked by the working team; in fact, there are partial denials: the launch of channels based on subscription payments will certainly happen, as work has been underway for some time.
However, the timeline is being denied, with clarification that the launch of these new features is not imminent.
