ESET NOD32 has compiled the top 5 most dangerous malware of recent weeks, specifically for March 2013.
There are many pitfalls related to IT security issues, but in recent weeks, certain malware have been particularly troublesome for users.
ESET NOD32, a company specializing in IT security, has compiled a list of the five biggest threats that, in March 2013, most frequently infected Italian users’ PCs.
The detections were made using Live Grid, a technology capable of collecting malware information based on ESET data from around the world.
In March, the most widespread infection identified by ESET NOD32 was related to the malware NaviPromo, classified as Win32/Adware.Navipromo.
This is an adware that installs itself, thereby opening a backdoor on the PC to send advertising pop-ups and pop-unders.
In second place is HTML/ScrInject, which activates hidden scripts or iframe tags to perform automatic redirects for malware downloads.
Third place goes to Win32/Sirefef: this is a different kind of threat, as it is a Trojan horse. Once it enters the system, Sirefef modifies desktop settings, crashes the system, redirects browser pages, and adds new, obviously malicious, entries to the system registry.
Finally, closing out the list are HTML/IFrame and Win32/TrojanDownloader.Wauchos.
The only advice in these cases is to install an antivirus on your PC, making sure to periodically download security updates and perform regular system scans.
