Asus Memo Pad is the new tablet entirely developed and distributed by Asus, whose main characteristic is its very low selling price.
Asus enters the affordable tablet market, officially presenting the new Asus Memo Pad.
This is a mid-range tablet, featuring entry-level hardware but good enough for a satisfactory mobile experience.
The screen is 7 inches, meaning the new Memo Pad will compete directly with the Nexus 7 – actually developed by Asus itself but exclusively for Google – and with the Kindle Fire. However, unlike the latter (already sold at attractive prices), it will cost even less.
Regarding the display resolution, it boasts 1024×600 pixels.
The CPU is 1 GHz (WM8950), supported by 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage, expandable up to 32 GB with additional microSD cards.
The native operating system is Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. As for the camera, there is only one rear-facing camera with 1 megapixel; perhaps a bit too minimal, so to speak.
The battery is 4270 mAh which, according to usage statistics released by Asus itself, allows for approximately 7 hours of continuous use.
From a purely aesthetic point of view, the tablet will be available in three colors: in addition to the classic white and black shades, there will also be a pink version.
As for the Asus Memo Pad price, it will be 149 euros, which is remarkably low.
Commercialization will begin in the coming weeks, but it is not yet clear in which countries. Asus has indeed announced that the tablet will be available in selected countries, without specifying which ones.
Therefore, it is largely thought of for emerging markets, but it is not impossible that the company might decide to launch its “attack” on the more established 7-inch tablets by starting distribution in America and Europe as well.
