News on the horizon for the Apple ecosystem: the Golden Master of OS X Mountain Lion, the new version of the operating system for Macs, has been released.
A precise release date for “regular” Mac users is not yet known, but it seems highly probable that the next suitable occasion to present the new operating system could be July 25th, when the usual Apple financial conference will take place.
However, some rumors suggest an earlier release, potentially as soon as next week, specifically on July 19th.
On average, the time between the release of the developer version and the public one is not very long: at most a couple of weeks, and certainly within a month, the new features officially come to life.
Regarding the new features of OS X Mountain Lion, it appears that the integration between the Mac world and the “mobile” world, in the style of iPhone, iPad, and iPod, will be quite evident, thus increasingly and clearly recreating the concept of the “Apple universe”.
Once available, OS X Mountain Lion will not be for everyone, however: Apple has set minimum requirements. You will need an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor and at least 2 GB of RAM. Therefore, quickly reviewing the machines, several models from 2006 to 2008 do not have these specifications and thus will not be able to proceed with the update.
For all others, however, it will be possible to upgrade the operating system by paying a fee of 15.99 euros: this is the price of OS X Mountain Lion.
