While same-sex gay marriages are not yet being discussed in Italy, on Facebook these unions are recognized: here are the new icons.
Facebook demonstrates that it is not simply watching societal changes without reflecting them within its social network walls. Thus, icons for gay weddings are arriving.
The novelty first appeared recently on a specific profile, that of Chris Hughes, one of Facebook’s co-founders.
Having married his partner, he appropriately updated his profile with his new relationship status and here came the surprise: instead of the usual traditional bride and groom (man-woman), an icon with two male grooms appeared.
The novelty was likely not born solely and exclusively as a result of the happy event within the Facebook staff, as the social network’s commitment to the rights of homosexual people has been known for some time: it is indeed well-known that Facebook has established a partnership with the organization GLAAD, which fights precisely for the elimination of discrimination perpetuated against gay couples.
It will therefore be possible to change the historically offered icon, choosing among the new ones: there is not only the image of two men but also the one with two brides.
The icon issue is just one of the new features that Facebook is proposing at this time: in fact, some other changes are in the air that will involve the introduction of new buttons alongside “Like,” such as a new “Want” button, to express preferences for desired products.
