Windows 8 Pro: upgrade price set

Microsoft announces the price of the upgrade to Windows 8 Pro, the new operating system. The surprise is that the operation – optional – will cost less than expected.

News from Microsoft, especially regarding the release of the new operating system Windows 8 Pro: the upgrade price has been announced.
Owners of devices currently running an original copy of Windows 7 (in its various versions), Windows Vista, or Windows XP will be able to request the specific upgrade to Windows 8, paying a certain amount, and we can reveal the price in dollars.
The upgrade to Windows 8 Pro will cost $39.99, a reasonable price compared to what was paid in the past in cases like these.
Specifically, you can decide to switch to Windows 8 Pro until January 31, 2013 under these conditions.
It should be specified that this price refers to the remote download mode, while those who prefer to purchase a physical copy will have to prepare to pay a higher amount, already set at $69.99.
At the moment, it seems very likely that the price in Europe will not change much compared to that offered on the US market.
Microsoft’s “price cut” move has naturally caused much surprise but in reality should not appear too unusual, since it is more than obvious that the Redmond company is strongly pushing this new operating system.
In an economic phase like the current one, asking for higher prices for an operating system certainly discourages both private users and corporate ones; for this reason aiming at a price reduction for the upgrade could prove to be a winning move to not lose old users.

At the same time, spreading the operating system as much as possible has yet another potential consequence: attracting more developers and therefore shortly having more applications tested for Windows 8.
As for the purely operational aspect, Windows 7 users who upgrade to Windows 8 Pro will find all personal files and Windows settings, as well as applications.
From Windows Vista the system will transfer only personal files and Windows settings, while from Windows XP only personal files will be saved.
Clearly, there is always the possibility to reset everything and install Windows 8 Pro without keeping anything at all.
