Ikea is ready to enter the field of consumer electronics and hi-tech applied to home furnishings: soon to be available will be Ikea LED TVs and many other devices, at low-cost prices.

The Swedish company Ikea seems intent on furnishing homes from every angle. After filling rooms worldwide with its low-cost furniture, it appears to be venturing into the realm of consumer electronics, offering televisions, DVD players, and related devices.
Indeed, an agreement has been signed between the Swedish giant Ikea and TCL Multimedia, a company specializing in producing electronics for other well-known brands, such as Thomson.
While the full range of models and accessories that will be part of Ikea’s collection, dubbed “Uppleva,” is not yet known, a small detail has emerged regarding what will likely be the flagship product of this new offering: an Ikea LED TV with internet connectivity.
The price will, of course, be in line with Ikea’s standards, meaning competitively low to outshine the competition and perfectly align with the yellow and blue brand’s philosophy.
Rumors suggest a price of around 700 euros for the latest generation LED TVs, but these are unconfirmed reports.
There’s also talk of the release of Blu-ray players, DVD players, and wireless stereo systems.
Regarding the official launch of these electronic products in Ikea stores worldwide, there will be an initial phase. It appears that in June, the new electronics line will be introduced in just five European locations.
Only afterwards will it be rolled out across the rest of Europe, and then, presumably in early 2013, to the rest of the world.
The outlook is decidedly positive, considering the successful sales of Electrolux and Whirlpool home appliances in Ikea stores.
