Asus unleashes its brand new ultrabook: it’s called Zenbook and is arriving on the market with a high-end price but performance that, at least on paper, seems noteworthy. Two versions have just been presented.
Asus is preparing to enter the market during the Christmas period by presenting an ultrabook in two versions: the Asus Zenbook, which will be available in Italy starting from November.
What immediately strikes is its design: basic and practical, it tapers towards the touchpad, reaching a minimum thickness of 2.8 millimeters, starting from the 9 millimeters at the rear. All this for a total weight of 1.3 kg.
Regarding its hardware configuration, the Asus Zenbook features an LED screen of various sizes: there is the 11.6-inch version (with Intel Core i5) or the larger 13.3-inch model. In both cases, however, the resolution is 1,600×900 pixels.
Returning to the processor, it’s an Intel Core i7-2677M with 4 GB of RAM and 256 GB on an SSD.
Bluetooth 4.0, USB 3.0 port, USB 2.0, Wifi 802.11b/g/n, and SD card slot: this is the connectivity package.
The battery deserves a special mention: it seems its battery life will be remarkable, up to two weeks. It’s a 50-watt battery that, at full capacity, should provide power for 7 continuous hours. However, the Asus Zenbook features Instant-On technology that allows the device to go into “hibernation” by storing data in RAM for 15 days, thus preserving the battery: in this sense, the battery life increases.
It’s quite interesting to learn that, once the work session is suspended, the Zenbook resumes all its full functionalities with an exceptional boot time: in just 2 seconds.
A final note, this time on aesthetics: the aluminum casing around the screen features concentric circles, from which the Zen-inspired name derives.
Regarding the price of the Asus Zenbook, it has been set at 1299 euros for the 13.3-inch version, while the 11.6-inch model will cost 899 euros: it’s not a budget notebook but it falls into the high-end product category.
