PlayStation 4 would already be in production, ready to hit stores in 2012, in an unspecified month. The novelty causing speculation involves its alleged similarity with Kinect.
Rumors are emerging from Asia, specifically Taiwan, suggesting the production of PlayStation 4 is set to begin. Sony’s gaming console could therefore hit online stores and brick-and-mortar retailers in 2012, although there is no precise launch date or official confirmation from the Japanese company.
The rumors (which reportedly come from anonymous sources close to Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, already assemblers of PS3) are circulating currently and even speak of a plan to release 20 million units of the new device to the market: a decidedly high number that is quite surprising.
Another detail that makes one think – but which is just a rumor to be taken with a grain of salt – concerns a peculiar feature that the future PlayStation 4 might be equipped with: it seems that a device is being studied that would make games with the PS4 very similar to those currently playable with the Kinect.
Therefore, the PlayStation 4 should also come with a motion sensor. Beyond that, nothing else is known about potential new features of the console, other than – as admitted by Sony itself – the price of PS4 will not differ significantly from that of PlayStation 3. This suggests that there may not be substantial innovations on the new devices that would necessitate a noteworthy price increase.
As already mentioned, however, we are in the realm of rumors and hypotheses: it will still take some time before we can talk concretely about PlayStation 4, especially because Sony, while engaged in the development of new products, continues in this phase to focus on the security of its network, attacked by hackers in recent weeks.
