It appears the time is near for Apple to say goodbye to MacBook and iPad batteries, currently produced by Samsung.
New rumors are emerging, outlining the relationship between Apple and Samsung.
The legal battles over alleged patent infringements in various courts appear to be extending into the supply of components for MacBook and iPad.
According to Asian sources, Apple will no longer acquire batteries for its devices from Samsung, as has been the case until now, and is reportedly seeking equally valid alternatives.
Based on initial leaks, the chosen companies for these new supplies would be Amperex Technology Limited and Tianjin Lishen Battery, both Chinese entities.
The Apple – Samsung collaboration seems to have reached a complete dead end, and the air of rupture was already evident following the leak suggesting that the Samsung SDI division had decided to stop supplying other companies involved in assembling components for Apple-branded products.
There is another notable precedent: it appears Samsung had already started selling components to Apple at a markup of approximately 20% compared to the prices Samsung itself charged other companies.
It should be specified that these are rumors and leaks never confirmed by either company, often reported by Chinese magazines.
Today, the news of the battery supply contract awarded to Amperex Technology Limited and Tianjin Lishen Battery also comes from China Business News and has not yet found confirmation in official statements from either Apple or Samsung.
However, the increasingly strained, largely legal relationship between the two companies does not offer much hope for the continuation of their commercial alliance.
