A market with ever-increasing potential is thus the market for tablets for children, objects that are half technological gadget and half toy, but are nonetheless genuine electronic devices.
Archos has recently added a new tablet for children to its catalog, named Archos 101 ChildPad.
The display is 10.1 inches, of course touchscreen, with a resolution of 1024 × 600 pixels. It is „framed“ by soft, rounded lines, in a white casing with orange edges, complete with a handle on top, making it easier for a child to carry.
The processor is a Rockchip RK3168 SoC: a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 at 1.2 GHz, supported by 1 GB of RAM, while the natively available internal memory is 8 GB but can be expanded using a microSD card.
The operating system running on this tablet is Google Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but Archos has heavily customized the interface to make it more usable for children.
It’s optimal that there is access to the Google Play Store apps, with the use of parental control filters.
Above the screen, there is a front-facing webcam; connectivity modules include Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi, as well as USB 2.0, USB 2.0 OTG, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and an HDMI output.
The battery is 5000 mAh, which means this tablet will likely have considerable battery life.
Finally, to complete it all, there is a technological teddy bearplaced on the casing but detachable, equipped with a magnet. A nice idea: it’s essentially an audio player with an integrated speaker that can also illuminate at night. However, the child can use it as a toy, carry it around, and perhaps use it to listen to songs.
Archos 101 ChildPadwill be available for sale soon, but it is already possible to pre-order it on Amazon for the price of 190.04 euros.
