After more than 10 years of postponements, delays, and rescheduled releases, the official launch of Duke Nukem Forever has been announced. It will arrive on May 6th in Europe, three days ahead of its US release on May 3rd, 2011. The first rumors about the successor to the successful prequel Duke Nukem 3D surfaced in 1997, with the game seemingly close to release within 1998. However, the game’s development took a completely different turn, delaying its release by a full 13 years and going through critical phases of apparent project abandonment.
But the wait is finally over: Duke Nukem Forever will be available in May 2011 on Sony PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Nintendo is notably absent.
Randy Pitchford himself, the president of Gearbox Software, revealed both the launch date and compatible consoles, as reported by GameInformer, which broke the exclusive news.
Younger gamers might be surprised by the “epochal” significance of this news in the video game industry, but the buzz surrounding this announcement is causing shooter game enthusiasts to rejoice.
Due to its content, Duke Nukem Forever will be restricted to players aged 14 and over.
