Jumo, social network for NGOs and activists

Activists and NGOs now have a social network dedicated entirely to activities and thematic news: it’s Jumo. Here, people meet, discuss charitable projects, recruit volunteers, in a virtual square for all activism.

Jumo is the social network that speaks to activists and NGOs, born from the project of Chris Hughes. The founder’s name is no stranger to the web: Hughes is indeed the co-founder of Facebook. The experience of the father of social media is thus embodied in a new adventure, entirely based on association and volunteer activities.
Currently, Jumo.com is available in a beta version, but registrations have not been lacking: over 3000 entities operating in the galaxy of non-profit organizations, humanitarian associations of various kinds, and charitable and volunteer organizations are interested in this brand new social network.
Jumo undoubtedly wants to create a network, but at the same time, it wants to aggregate advice and become a virtual meeting place where real answers can be found within the framework of charitable associations.
The news could only go around the world today, December 1st, World AIDS Day: one of the themes that is undoubtedly present within Jumo.
The creation of this social network based on good deeds stems from the tragedy of the Haiti earthquake: it was on that occasion that Hughes – already out of Facebook and later in charge of Obama’s electoral campaign staff – conceived this new solidarity web network.
While the intent appears to be absolutely noble, the aims of individuals interested perhaps in fraud, intruding into a field fertile for potential donations or project launches, might not be. In this regard, the Jumo staff makes it known that only entities with proven activity will be accepted.
