Milena Gabanelli dedicated an episode of Report to the Internet but the online community did not appreciate the investigations of the Rai 3 program. A crusade begins against the show and its host with a media buzz on the Internet that spreads rapidly.
On the Internet, there’s a crusade against the Rai 3 show, Report, which dedicated the April 10 episode to the Internet. Milena Gabanelli, the journalist and host of Report, is blamed for talking about the Internet when some believe they have the exclusive rights.
For years, the Report show has been considered, even by the Internet community, as one of the few providing public service communication. Gabanelli’s investigative journalism has been rightly regarded as a flagship of Italian TV, increasinglymade in gossip and less and less serving the people.
In my opinion, yesterday’s episode had two major flaws:
1) talking about the Internet when many people believe they have exclusive rights;
2) the investigations remained very superficial, highlighting only the flaws and almost never the merits of the Internet.
To summarize the two points, where did Gabanelli err in the episode dedicated to the Internet? First of all, by talking about the Internet with limited knowledge. Secondly, according to the “Internet community” (myself included), she overdid it by emphasizing a dark side of the Internet (which does exist) without mentioning the good side of the Internet (which also exists). In one simple phrase: cyber terrorism was practiced.
I won’t go into the specifics of the episode, anyone interested can watch the showReport on Rai’s website, but it’s clear that yesterday’s episode was not aimed at us professionals (I don’t want to think that). The superficiality of the topics and perhaps also the format of the episode immediately led me to take the information the State TV was spreading at that moment with a grain of salt, so to speak. At times, I even found the investigations on Report rather boring.
However, launching a crusade against Milena Gabanelli and her show Report is another matter. Because if that were so, I wonder (actually ask you) what to think of the professionals who pointed fingers at the journalist when Report focused on them with episodes dedicated to tuna or Telecom? Yet in those cases, we were all in agreement. Report is the show that exposes wrongdoing and wrongdoers. Did the episode about the Internet cause many to change their opinion?
