ASPItalia.com (http://www.aspitalia.com) was born in September 1998 from the keyboard of Daniele Bochicchio (26 years old, from Potenza).
Bochicchio is an enthusiast who now mainly manages the content of ASPItalia.com. He has known ASP since the first beta version and has followed the product’s evolution from its inception. Among other things, he is the author of the book ‘ASP 3 per esempi’, published by Jackson Libri. Before Aspitalia.com, there was nothing like it in the Italian scene. Indeed, until a few months ago, it was the only site of its kind. ASPItalia.com is simply a community of developers. At the core of his team’s work is a passion for this technology. The site has different areas covering everything that might interest a developer: articles, scripts, lists, forums, security, components, hosting. Here’s what he thinks about ASP and PHP and the services connected to them. What is ASP? A technology (and not a language) for scripting. For these reasons, it supports several languages and is completely based on COM+, making it virtually infinitely extensible. Why would you recommend using ASP? Because you can choose the language that best suits your needs, which in most cases is VBS, a subset of the better-known Visual Basic. VBS is very easy to learn. In addition, ASP is part of a much broader project involving a whole series of services available on Windows family servers. What are the strengths of ASP compared to PHP? It’s a technology, not a language. This means they are on completely different levels. What does ASP lack that you instead envy in PHP? I would say nothing. Is the ASP + Windows combo more successful or PHP + Linux? A matter of taste (and budget). I find the ASP + Windows combo excellent. Better SQL or MySQL? And why? SQL Server for power, scalability, performance, and functions. MySQL for low-cost projects. It’s an excellent product but with significant limitations. Is it better to use Italian Hosting (housing) or USA Hosting (housing)? I prefer the USA ones. Usually, when some services are new here, they have already been widespread for months in the USA… Are there more Web resources for ASP or PHP? I don’t know. In Italy definitely more resources for ASP. What do you think about .NET? It’s the idea of the future. Except for SunONE in some respects, there’s nothing remotely comparable to the .NET framework. What is the best Italian community for ASP? What a question, mine 🙂 What is the best Italian community for PHP? I don’t frequent any, but I believe there are very few.
