In creating a website, images now play a fundamental role. Sometimes what an image conveys cannot even be expressed by text, but in this lesson, we won’t engage in philosophy; instead, we will see which images to use and how to use them for the web.
To start, let’s immediately state that the most used image formats for the web are gif and jpg. Gif Format Images in Gif format are graphics that allow animation, such as banners. Furthermore, Gif format supports transparency, meaning the ability to adapt its background to that of the web page.
Jpg Format Unlike the Gif format, this format allows neither animation nor transparency and is therefore normally used for photographic images. Other image formats for the web exist, such as the less common png or the very heavy bmp, but I recommend using Png, Gif, or Jpg formats.
