Dot, the Smartwatch for the Visually Impaired, is Here

Dot, the first smartwatch specifically designed for visually impaired individuals, is on its way.

Great news for the visually impaired: a smartwatch has been designed that can be easily used by them as well.
It’s called “Dot” and was developed through the research of a startup founded by young Koreans, led by CEO Eric Ju Yoon Kim.
The operating principle of Dot is seemingly very simple: the smartwatch was designed using technology that makes its display readable, naturally in Braille.
The screen is divided into four interactive areas, each composed of six dots that continuously change their arrangement to quickly produce up to four characters simultaneously, allowing visually impaired individuals to read.
Dot does exactly what you would expect from a smartwatch: it receives incoming notifications from email, phone, social networks, and some apps; it allows for the reception and reading of SMS; it sounds at the set alarm time; it is equipped with a Bluetooth 4.0 module; it has navigation functionalities.
What appears most interesting, however, is the fact that the small and handy Dot can transform from a smartwatch into an ebook reader, thus offering something integrated and very useful for visually impaired individuals.

The savings would be evident, as the ebook reading function would be integrated into Dot: everything condensed, so to speak, into a single, wearable device.
Furthermore, the prices of ebook readers for the visually impaired tend to be high, while the price of Dot appears to be competitive: the figure is expected to be around $300.
Orders for Dot will begin in the coming weeks, though at the time of writing, a precise launch date for the device has not yet been established.
