Nintendo takes a step back and, quite surprisingly, presents the **new Nintendo 2DS portable console**: here are its features and price.
Nintendo has in the past few hours presented a new device, this time in the handheld console sector: the new Nintendo 2DS.
is about to be released.It will not escape notice that the name itself suggests a substantial change of direction compared to the past: it is in fact a step backward, since the console “loses” – so to speak – one dimension compared to the 3DS model.
At the time of the latter’s release, much was said about the fear that 3D technology would excessively strain the player’s vision.
However, this is not the only modified aspect, as the aesthetics have also undergone a restyling, losing the clamshell closing mechanism and leaving everything in view.
Furthermore, the two stereo speakers are no longer present, replaced by a single audio output.
The choice to design a handheld console like the upcoming 2DS might, however, more than anything else, have been dictated by the desire to lower the selling price, thus making the device attractive and accessible to a wider target audience.
As for the features, the Nintendo 2DS features two screens of the same size as the Nintendo 3DS and also retains the two cameras.
The proposed colors will be in combinations of white + red or black + blue.
It is interesting to know that backward compatibility with Nintendo DS games is guaranteed; therefore, 3DS games will also work, although they will no longer be viewable in the various depth levels provided but in a “simple” version, i.e., 2D.
Regarding the price of the Nintendo 2DS, at the moment we can only communicate the price for the US market, as the price in Europe has not yet been officially announced: the package, also equipped with a 4 GB SD card, will cost $129.99. As soon as it is known, we will also specify the price of the Nintendo 2DS in Italy.
The release date of the Nintendo 2DS has been set for October 12th.
