Microsoft Smartphone Under Study, Rumors

Interesting rumors are emerging regarding the potential release of a proprietary Microsoft smartphone, currently dubbed the “Surface Phone”.

News is arriving – although still only in the form of rumors – from the United States and particularly from Microsoft’s headquarters.
According to an article published in the Wall Street Journal, the Redmond company is reportedly well underway in the design and production of its own proprietary smartphone.
Following the launch of the Surface tablet, the “Surface Phone” could therefore be Microsoft’s first branded smartphone, free from the effects of the collaboration established with Nokia.
Typically, when a publication like the Wall Street Journal makes an announcement, there’s a strong indication of impending news: in the past, previews released in the renowned newspaper have almost always materialized as expected.
This time, the information states that the details were obtained from internal sources within Asian component manufacturers.
These companies have allegedly already been contacted by designated Microsoft personnel to initiate the production of the new device.

Tests are reportedly underway in Washington state, although it remains unclear if and when mass production will commence for market release.
These are considered highly embryonic stages of a project that could lead to a smartphone with a screen diagonal between 4 and 5 inches. This singular “clue” suggests the hypothetical device would be a high-end smartphone, directly competing with the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S 3.
No other details are known at this time, so further rumors will be needed in the coming weeks to determine if a “Surface Phone” is indeed under consideration.
