Wikipedia Reopens, Back Online

Wikipedia reopens and is back online regularly, but continues to consider the wiretapping bill and its legislative process a matter not to be underestimated.

The closure of Wikipedia on October 4th, 5th, and 6th generated significant discussion: a powerfully simple protest against the wiretapping bill.
However, Wikipedia Italy is now back online, although the tension surrounding the pursuit of knowledge freedom continues to keep the entire Italian staff on high alert.
Indeed, although some amendments have been proposed – already nicknamed the “Wikipedia Save” amendments – the legislative process for the wiretapping bill has not yet seen the definitive approval of the modifications intended for the much-debated clause 29.
These changes, in essence, should only affect regularly registered online publications, thereby exempting Wikipedia, as well as other sites and blogs, from the obligation of rectification within 48 hours of a request from entitled parties.
Currently, an orange box is displayed at the top of Wikipedia’s homepage, explaining why the largest online encyclopedia felt the need to self-censor and simultaneously indicating that vigilance will not wane until the official content of the wiretapping bill is known.
Furthermore, the link to the “press review” related to these days of symbolic strike highlights the significant media resonance of this move, given that it garnered global attention.
