Voice calls do indeed arrive on WhatsApp, but activation is for a lucky few: it is by invitation.
WhatsApp has actually started the phase of practical experimentation of voice calls. The news is circulating on the net, supported by the direct experience of users themselves.
The reason is simple: apparently, in this very first phase, WhatsApp voice calls will only be activated through a sort of invitation.
A small group of US users have in fact received the update. Since then, it has been noticed that, by making a voice call, the recipient of the "call" via VoIP has automatically received the activation of the same functionality.
Naturally, those who obtained this upgrade did not waste time and began to "propagate" the possibility to their contacts but in these hours WhatsApp has put a stop to the activation of voice calls with the system just illustrated.
The hypothesis is that the number of testers who spontaneously – and unknowingly – returned in this very first phase of diffusion of the functionality has been reached and that therefore we can now work on fixing any bugs, being able to count on probably frequent and “real” interactions between real users. Not just laboratory tests, therefore, but all-round field tests, with different operators, signals and contexts.
At the moment, it is not possible to know when a diffusion of this type will be possible again or if, instead, the next update will bring to everyone – without distinction – the possibility of making voice calls to their contacts who also use WhatsApp.
All this, however, suggests that the development of the feature has now reached its perfection and that it will soon be launched worldwide, for everything.
