Sony’s first OLED TVs, featuring unsurpassed contrast and black levels, new Acoustic Surface audio technology and a unique stand-less design, will be available this May.
Sony today announced the European launch timing of the BRAVIA OLED 4K HDR A1 TVs. The BRAVIA OLED A1 series offers a unique combination of the superb picture quality of OLED enhanced by Sony’s 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme, the world’s first Acoustic Surface Sound system and a pioneering stand-less design. With over 8 million self-illuminating pixels, the OLED A1 series dramatically enriches the viewing experience with unrivalled black levels, deep, authentic colours, dynamic contrast, blur-free images and a wide viewing angle. In addition, the 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme expands the capabilities of OLED to produce stunning 4K HDR images.
Sony was the first brand to bring OLED televisions to the market in 2007 with the launch of the then-revolutionary XEL-1 display. Since then, it has continued to develop award-winning OLED products for both professional broadcasting and video production, used for a wide range of purposes, from editing, graphics production, special effects, film and programme production… Sony’s professional OLED monitors have won the Scientific and Engineering Academy Award® and the Technical Emmy Award, in recognition of their enormous contribution to the development and innovation of broadcast technologies.
“Since its unveiling at CES in January, the BRAVIA OLED A1 series has been acclaimed for its innovative combination of best-in-class picture quality and Acoustic Surface sound,” said Motoi Kawamura, Head of TV Marketing and Product Planning at Sony Europe. “From this May, European customers will be able to experience the extraordinary performance of the BRAVIA OLED A1.”
The debut of Acoustic Surface audio technology
Taking advantage of the backlight-free nature of OLED, Sony has developed Acoustic Surface, a new technology that delivers high-impact sound directly from the screen. The screen’s original design resonates from every angle, delivering a match between sound and picture that was previously unheard of on a conventional TV. Unlike conventional LED TVs that deliver sound from below or from the sides, the A1 Series seamlessly blends sound and picture, making it seem as if voices are coming directly from actors speaking or explosions are exploding directly from the screen. Acoustic Surface also synchronises sound and picture from all angles, right out to the edges of the screen, for optimum sound. This, combined with the ultra-wide viewing angle of OLED, means that the BRAVIA A1 TV delivers an unrivalled viewing and sound experience, regardless of the viewer’s position or angle.
Exclusive stand-free design
By eliminating the speakers typically found around or below the TV, Acoustic Surface technology adds to the beauty of the A1 Series’ cutting-edge design, with no visible stand or speakers, eliminating distractions so you can focus on the superior picture quality. The rear stand conceals a powerful sub-woofer and cable management system, and can be folded back against the TV for wall mounting.
Unmatched contrast and sharpness
The new BRAVIA OLED 4K HDR A1 TV line-up supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) for spectacular contrast and vivid, brilliant colours. Sony’s advanced 4K HDR Processor X1 Extreme helps increase colour accuracy, contrast and clarity, and supports HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision for access to the growing HDR content library. The processor’s performance also allows lower resolution content to be upscaled to near 4K HDR quality, thanks to object-based HDR remastering technology that detects, analyses and optimises every element of the image to improve overall contrast. This incredible suite of technologies works together to deliver a dramatically improved HDR experience, with maximum clarity and an even wider range of colours and contrasts. TRILUMINOS Display technology maps colours for a varied palette; Super Bit Mapping 4K HDR makes colour transitions smoother, without unsightly banding; Dual Database Signal Processing reduces visual noise for clarity; Motionflow corrects artificial movements, for extremely smooth and natural reproduction. Sony technologies are designed to convey lifelike images like never before in every aspect, from colours, deep and precise down to the smallest shades, to brightness and black saturation.
Android TV
BRAVIA OLED 4K HDR A1 TVs integrate Android TV, the platform that offers films, programmes and thousands of applications to enjoy satellite and cable TV, download content and play games, without leaving the living room. Television lovers will be able to watch programmes and films without limits from Google Play, Netflix, Amazon Video, YouTube and other channels.
