Rumors suggest that ads will soon be coming to Facebook Messenger chats.
Several rumors are leaking out regarding the near future of Facebook Messenger.
According to multiple sources, the social networking giant's popular internal chat – with its own application for mobile devices – could soon be affected by a major development.
The technology news site TechCrunch, for example, recently made public – by publishing it online – a confidential document through which it was learned that there would be a desire to insert advertising within Facebook Messenger.
The project it is already being studied, so as to be able to create a sort of autonomous business for this "offshoot" of Facebook.
It is not yet clear what the final form of the idea could be: banners? Message-like ads?
The whole thing is still top secret or – much more likely – being defined among Facebook's top management.
However, the confidential document suggests that Facebook would like to encourage companies present on the social network to respond promptly to their users, so that the arrival of specific promotional messages on the Messenger app is received more easily and "naturally" by users.
Not everyone, however, will see the ads appear: according to what is outlined in the document, only users who have already chatted privately with the various brands will see ads arrive.
In other words: messages will not be sent in a massive and indiscriminate manner but specifically to those who have shown – thanks to interaction – some form of interest in the company in question.
This is precisely the reason why Facebook staff invites large investors to create a very rapid and direct dialogue with those who contact the various official pages of companies and brands.
Another detail emerges from the consultation of the classified material: the evidence that Facebook has created a short web address – that is, fb.com/msg/ – that it will probably use for this specific project.
At the time of writing, as already mentioned, the definitive form of this innovation is unknown, however it will almost certainly also involve the distribution of short videos.
There are no official confirmations or denials from Facebook either: we will certainly talk about it again if the new feature is actually introduced.
