Bluetooth Device Attacks: Security Measures

Unfortunately, there are currently no methods that would guarantee 100 percent security for a Bluetooth device…

..the recently discovered method appears to be a type of wallpaper that can be applied to walls, which would disrupt signals coming from outside, thus protecting WLAN or PICONET networks from potential attackers. Naturally, the drawbacks of this technique are immediately identifiable: the impossibility of covering doors and windows, and the fact that this paper “wall” would only be able to disrupt a certain range of frequencies. It is therefore easy to understand that the only way to protect our mobile phone or personal device is to activate Bluetooth only when we know we need to establish a connection, and to think carefully before accepting a connection (or message) from an unknown device. Naturally, all the bugs and intrusion methods analyzed unfortunately also apply to recent cars equipped with on-board Bluetooth devices, such as the Renault Clio and Yaris Blue: who knows if one day we will see crackers stopped at traffic lights with their laptops waiting for one of these models to attack. Among the tips I would like to give to all owners of Bluetooth devices, including smartphones, PDAs, laptops, and even cars, are the following: If possible, activate the invisible mode for your Bluetooth device, i.e., turn off “Discoverable Mode” and use this function only when you are actually establishing a connection between devices or exchanging data with other Bluetooth users. When connecting devices, choose PIN codes that are as random as possible, avoiding easy combinations like 0000 or 1234. If you do not use Bluetooth for a certain period, it would be best to completely disable this functionality. If you hear about software flaws and security issues concerning the device manufacturer, inquire directly with them.
